Is this deck safe?

This corroded joist hanger is an example of what happens when the chemicals in the newer pressure treated lumbers reacts with joist hangers that are not specially designed to resist the corrosion. Replacement of the joist hangers will be required.

Is it raining in here?

I arrived early to inspect this foreclosed bank owned home; the bank had a contractor "de-winterize" the property 3 days before the inspection. Only problem was the contractor did not check for leaks; the dishwasher supply line was broken and hot water was pouring into the ceilings for 3 days. The house was full of steam and the ceilings were on the floor. The buyer declined to move forward with the sale.

If it looks like mold!

The interior attic sheathing in this bank owned foreclosed home is black with mold; the attic ventilation was inadequate and moisture from the bathroom and laundry area was infiltrating into the attic.

Chimney to "no-where"

10 years ago 2 new gas fired boilers where attached to this chimney; the installation was inspected and approved by the municipal inspector. Only problem was this is not a chimney but a hollow brick support for the antique wood frame. What you see looking up from the cleanout door is the wood structure completely blocking this "supposed" chimney. Fumes have been escaping into the basement for years. YIKES!

Evidence of water infiltration
